What are the signs of it going bad? My car goes in tomorrow for my noisy trans. I think it is a synchro problem but someone told me it may be the bearing instead. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

It can make a chirping noise while at idle with the clutch engaged (foot off the clutch). It can also make a grinding/speaker feedback type noise that you can hear from inside when the clutch is depressed.

I'm experiencing both these symptoms. How difficult/costly is it to fix this issue?

The throwout bearing is a $35 part from Ford. Definetly get the Ford bearing, aftermarket ones seem to be of lesser quality. It can vary as far as expense is concerned because they do need to drop the tranny to replace it.

I would say replace the clutch while your at it if its close to being needed, as it probably is anyway, also check the rear main seal, again buy the Ford one. Have the flywheel ground, or replace with an aluminum or billet steel one too. Basically if your gonna spend hundreds of dollars to replace the TO bearing, may as well have a REPUTABLE mechanic go ahead and replace everything else. It would suck to replace the TO bearing then have to go back in a few months later to put in a new clutch.

DId you use the French made POS that comes with Spec Clutch?
Because mine faild at 36 miles.

Buy Ford one. you may pay few bucks more, but its not kind of parts you want to save few backs on.

Well, the part sounds cheap itself, so I have no problem with ordering the bearing from Ford. Labor is going to be a bitch though.
