my 67 mustang is equipped with the tilt-a-away column. it does not currently work but i guess the tilt away motion is activated by a vacum canister as the door is opened. somone was telling me that this was a rare option on the mustang and it was only on the 67 - 69? was this column system that rare of an option? how difficult is it to get this system to work? it looks like all the parts (canister, wiring etc.) are in place but not sure how to diagnos why it doesnt work?

I guess it is fairly rare, but not enough to make it worth megabucks. I've now had three of these columns, and while they are simple enough in how they work, they do need to be adjusted properly. The factory shop manual is probably the best place to find the adjusting procedure. The main areas to check out are if the system has vacumn, and that the electrical signal from the second switch on the door post is being recieved. Other than that you have to make sure the cable from the vacumn motor that goes into the column is adjusted properly.
