Timing Question

I just finished helping my buddies car project. Wondering how much timing i should set it at. It has ported heads, 190 pump with adj fuel pressure reg, underdrive pulleys and full exhaust with a small cam. ?????

well set it to 12 degrees intial and take it for a spin. Make sure no detonation. then bump it up a couple. do the same thing. I doubt the computer is going to like to much more then 18 degrees of intial timing.
