Timing question

I have been running my Steeda TA at 15* for about 3 years now. It definitely "feels" like it I have gained a few HP and TQ. Overall, I am happy with it. Now, I am considering a Diablo tuner. I have heard that the timing advance is better if you use the predator vs. a TA. Can someone explain how the tuner maps the timing versus a timing adjuster? THANKS!

a timing adjuster moves all the timing at all rpms and engine loads up the same amount. this means that if the adjuster is advanced 2 degrees, then the timing is turned up 2 degrees from idle to 6000rpm.

with a tuner, you can bump up timing in 1000rpm increments. so you can add only 1 degree at 2000rpm and add 5 degrees at 5000rpm. you can also adjust for the various load tables.

this allows you to add as much timing that's possible in the upper rpm at WOT without causing low rpm pinging.

this is just a quick explanation. i'm lazy and don't feel like writing a huge novel. hope this helps.

Thanks that actually helped a lot!!! Now im wondering, I have some slight bucking at about 1600-1800RPM. Maybe I need to pull some timing down low. Sound like the tuner can accomplish this.

According to their instructions you can not adjust timing based on load. Only wot (100% load)

Spark Advance [FONT=MQLYQX+Futura-Condensed,Futura]Spark Advance 2k-4k / 4k-7k [/FONT][FONT=SMTIWL+Futura-CondensedLight,Futura]= WOT timing adjustment; adjusts timing at wide open throttle only. Predator allows for a 10% increase (advance) and a 40% decrease (retard) in two separate ranges, one from 2000rpm to 4000rpm and the other from 4000rpm to 7000rpm (or wherever red limit occurs).
