i was just wondering what a good base timing for my new setup would be. most of the details of my car are in my sig, my dad set the timing to 3 degrees advance, which is 13 degrees over the base of 10 degrees back. The car seems to run nicely here, but i think it might be a bit too much timing, and i've heard other people say I could go even higher, what do you guys think?

I'll try to translate!
But theacorndoesn'tfly!
dop do du wa!

Maybe he meant he advanced 3* "more" from the stock/base of 10* for a total of 13*.
Bump your timing up till you get light detonation. Then back off 3* of timing. That's how I did mine.

but anyway you can advance the timing by 1 degree drive to wide open throttle and keep doing this until you begin to hear pinging (detonation) and stop...back off 2 degrees and you should be good as long as there is no (pinging) detonation..and also gasoline octane has alot to do with how high you can set your timing the higher the octane the higher timing you can run but if you run a lower octane after you set timing you run the risk of (pinging) detonation which is bad for your engine..but you can 87,91 and 93 octane over a period of time and write down the degree of timing to run with certain octane.

Or perhaps for the math types, we could convert one minute into degrees.
(Geography joke).

That would be 6 degrees. If you figure an hour as being a full circle (360 degrees). I know I am bored right now.

Like others said, adjust it until it pings, then bacj it off 2 to 3 degrees, Start at around 10-12 degrees and go from there.
