Tinting windows on a S197.

here's another thing to think about, if you use the moleskin on your car, and for some reason it comes off and gets rolled down into the door and jambs up the window, not saying it could happen, but what if. do you think your warranty will cover it since you added something to it? i would have to say probably not. i am not a mechanic, nor am i a professional tinter, but i would think a professional would make sure they warranty their work, even against scrathces. if they use a good quality tint.

Thank You. I believe they used the lumar on mine w/o Mole Skin. It scratched and they are going to replace it, but will charge me $30.00 to install the Mole Skin. I was going to do it myself but for $30.00 I'll let them do it and if there are any further problems it is on them.McQueens Dream said:

I talked to my guy as well, locally and he said order the kit and give him a call. He never knew anything about this until customers after me starting coming back on him.

Not sure what you mean by that, but either you still have a bunch of cars or you haven't had the vehicles long enough to evaluate different tints imo. Down here in Florida where just about every car has tint, you'll find that Llumar is the number one choice. LLumar has a lifetime warranty and Johnson film has a 3 year warranty...like you said, to each his own but to be honest, a lot has to do with the installer. And about the moleskin...you can what if stuff all day long, but the truth is that if you install the moleskin with the proper glue, it's no more likely to fall off than your tint. Don't wanna start a war here, just replying to your reply.

not a problem man, and you are right, we don't keep vehicles very long around our house, we like to trade, and often. we will be keeping the 06 though, so we'll see. i know what Johnson's warranty says, but my installer stands behind it as long as i own the car, so it's no big deal to me. around here Llumar is junk, but down there, maybe it's the best, who knows? it was just my opinion, and you gave yours, no hard feelings. it's all good.

I discussed the need for felt with my installer and he assured me he has not received any reports of scratches from the S197's he's done thus far. I opted to go ahead and let him do the tinting sans felt. Sure enough, 9 days later the tint is scratched. I ordered the moleskin yesterday and will make another appointment to have the old stuff removed and then reapplied once I install the moleskin...

Oh yeah. He gives a lifetime warranty on all his work and materials no questions asked. He assured me based on his previous jobs on the S197's that he's never had anyone complain. So I guess I'm his first!timeless2 said:

glad to hear he is standing by his work. we are going on 2 months now with no scratches and no moleskin, guess some cars are different?

Ive had mine done about 4 times, mainly from the corners rolling up(months after), the scratches i gave up on am too lazy to put the moleskin.

Most of the reputable tinters know about the design flaws before they hit the floor. Especially when they are connected with dealership work or Sema car prepping.
I was told about the current rubber strip before I even asked the price on the job. It was explained to me up front that felt was needed and then it was shown to me when I arrived.
Those that are anal about their cars might get away with not applying the felt for quite some time. The very first time and dirt or grime get on that rubber strip, the tint will likely scratch. This is not a tint quality issue by any means. It's ford's design that is the flaw.
