Yes. as will a 285/40ZR17

Yup...it's the best fitting tire for a 9" rim.

Should be fine. I'm running a 275 tire on a 9" wide rim and hopefully upgrading to 285's

A word of caution -- try sticking to a manufacturers recommended wheels sizes. Not all tire sizes are the same. Example, a Nitto 285/40 probably has a smaller width than let's say a Goodyear 285/40.
