What would be the widest tire I could run in the rear of a 68 coupe with a 17x7 wheel?

Am i dumb to think I could get an aggresive stance with a 17x7 all around?

Also some Q's 2 posts down on a 18x8..

Not my first choice, I have someone who has some rims that they will give me for $250 - they are actually 7.5 rims.. I'd love to have some nice rims for $250 - If they are only .5" off of 8" then would it be really that bad?

Also can get 18x8 for $350 from same guy. Might go with these instead, only I've never seen any stangs with 18's on them. From dodgestang's chart it shows I should run 265/35 and 245/40

the bolt pattern should be 5 x 4.5". The .5" shouldn't be too bad but will look a little skinny. What year is the car? 65, 66, 67, and 68's look sorta funny with anything bigger than a 17" wheel

You're pretty limited with the 17x7 maybe 235's.
the 18x8's sound like you'll have more to work with.
dodgestangs reccomendations sound like a better fit, look, and performance

You can run up to a 255 on a 7" wheel,I dont think that wheel chart shows all the options.

That is an awfully wide tire for a 7" rim.

I have to agree - 255 seems pretty wide.. I was thinking 235? I think im leaning towards doing a 18x8 in rear and 17x7 up front. The price for 17x8 is outragous compared to the 18's - I can get tires cheap so not too worried about that..

How much are the sidewalls pulled in?

A 275 tire is a 10.8" tread width, that is rediculous on an 8" wheel.

I'm not recommending this, I'm with the other guys - my taste says they'd look bad on anything smaller than a '69, but here is Hal Baer's sweet '69 sportsroof with 18x10. It looks MEAN. It's your car, if you dig this look, see if they would fit on the dodgestang chart.

I too would question that 275 on a 8" rim. Got any pics of that??

My nitto DR measures just hair over 10". i wouldnt say rediculous, probably not the most ideal for roadcourse work but fine by all means for street duty. Take a look around stangnet, or anywhere for that matter...275DR's on a stock 17x8 wheel is very a common practice

i dont believe its effecting the tires performance as ive cut 1.7s with that setup, and havnt found any abnormal wear either

The reccomended wheel widths for a 275 is 7.5 to 9.5 inches and I'm seeing 7.0 to 9.0 inches for 255's according to summit racing.

Of course this will change if you have rubber bands for tires...like I see a 40 series 255 on a 17 inch whose range is 8.5 to 10
