My son got a deal on a new Crossfire with custom wheels & tires.

The car had been sitting in the same place for about six weeks on display without being moved.

When driving the car just before taking delivery, he noticed a slight vibration at highway speeds only. The dealer told him they most likely needed to balance the wheels & tires.

Next day the manager of the dealer ship calls my son and tells him he just got off the phone with the tire manufacture. Turns out that all four tires had developed flat spots from sitting in the same place for so long.

The manager told my son they had four new tires for him the next day cause the original tires could not be made right.

The tire manufacture told the manager that high performance, low profile tires can develope flat spots if allowed to sit for thirty days or longer.

Any of you guys ever heard of such a thing?

Grady

I dunno if 6 weeks is long enough to cause that, but I know that it can happen over time.

Yep - I dont know exactly how performance-oriented we are talking (And I know not-snot about run-flats if it has those), but the radials can deform if sitting stagnant for too long (I dont know a time line - i think temps and the tire pressure in the tire has something to do with it). On cars that sit, I pressurize the tires way over spec.

None of that helped, but I hope it all smooths out for him. Must be nice to have nice new toys.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's been sitting without being moved at all for 6 weeks straight.

If the tires aren't fully inflated and with the weight of the car it can happen. That's why they say to properly store a car...take off the wheels and palce on jackstands.

Wouldn't look too good in a showroom though.

Thanks guys!

I've never owned a car that had any need for tires like that type. The dealer told him those tires went for just a bit less than $300 each................OUCH!

My old Stanger will go around corners good enough for me but I know some want more from their car.

I bet his old man could take him in a straight line blast to say 100 mph, lol.

Anyway he is getting new tires for wifee's ride.

Grady, the dealer paid for the tires right? They shouldn't make him pay for something they did.

You bet

I taught the boy right

When he made the deal for the car he told the salesman he was not gonna pay TWO GRAND for those fancy wheels and tires.

He knew before-hand the car had been around for a while so the got the wheel/tire pak for free, lol.
