Whats the ideal tire size for a 17x9 rim? I am leaning towards the stock tire size of 245/45's. Will the 245/45's fit alright on the 17x9's?

they will fit fine but you will have the rim buldging out over the tire. The ideal size is 275/40/17 but the 245 are prolly a lot cheaper in the case you go through tires fast.

17x8 = 245/45/17
17x9 = 275/40/17

Those are the sizes needed to keep the speedo 100% accurate. A 245 will fit on a 9" wheel, but it will be strecthed.

Thanks for the info guys. Also I'm kind of budgeted too!! Whats a decent 275/40 17 tire to throw on? I'm not racing or driving 140+. I'm more of an average/aggressive city driver!

I have a '99 GT and I've been shopping wheels and tires. I'd appreciate any help on sizing and backspacing. I'm considering Centerline Auto Drag III's 17x9.5. Would that size work on the front also? If so, what's the widest tire I could mount all the way around? I mainly just commute in the car and go to the drag strip occasionally. If go with 17x8 in the front and 17x9.5 out back, what backspacing would be best? Any help would be much appreciated!

SHouldn't be. The 2003 Cobra comes with a 17x9 and 275/40/17 tire from the factory

You can put some big tires on the 99+ Mustangs...275's up front and 335's out back

I have 245/45s on my front 17x9'' rims and 275/40 in the rear. The 245s are a bit streched but it's not that bad, I like the look the only problem is that you have 0 rim protection so you gotta be extra careful.

pics of the front with 245s:

Hope it helps.
