Tire size: 255/45/18 vs 275/35/18 PICS

Just thought I'd put this out there for those who are thinking about going with a bigger/taller tire. 255/45's are Nexen s3000 $487 mounted and balanced. 275/35's were BFG KDW 2 were $700 something mounted and balanced. BFG's were awesome tires, good from a dig, good at high speed cornering, but got loud and lost traction after a while and by the end of there life the noise was driving me insane. Haven't had the Nexen's long enough to give much of a review but here goes. Looks- blah. Could be less round and more square like the BFG's. Ride- awesome. Part of the reason I went with a taller tire is that where I live, I drive down a road under construction for the past 6 months and going on for nearly another year. So it's bumpy as hell. The BFGs were harsh on that road. I couldn't take it so went with a taller tire. The nexens ride smoother. Much improved ride over rough roads and so so quiet. Now I havent' taken any high speed corners and I don't want to with these tires. I'm assuming they will feel sloshy due to the height of sidewall, rounded edges and cheapness in general. So I'm not losing my car on a high speed corner in some flaming barrel roll just to test out the sidewalls. Also, it's a 30 min drive before I ever see a road above 45 mph speed limit. So not much high speed driving going on. Price- unbeatable for the my particular application at this time. Now when the road is done and smooth, I will be ready to go back to a better more expensive low profile tire and I know most everybody will think these are cheap crap, and I do too, but they work for me for right now.
Oh and 255/45's are 1.5" taller in diameter, which puts the speedo about 4mph slower. I can change that with my programmer.

Wow. Usually you know your stuff. But your wrong on both accounts. The tires are not on backwards and no you can't get them for $60-70 a piece. Nice try.

Scupking - They do fill up the gap a little. It was wierd but on my way home I couldof sworn the car felt higher as I was driving it. I kept telling myself, "There is no way you can feel .75" difference."

Burningrubber - If they make it a year, I'll be happy. Cause after that I'm going back to a better tire. By then I should also have my built bottom end with P&P heads, blower cams, 12# pulley and that intake from MPH. Trying to max out my little 1.7 before I step up to a bigger blower. But right now my money has to go toward my engine so the cheap tires really couldn't have come at a better time.

i have to second saleengt2001, those nexens should not cost that much, the tires are usually priced very low.

and if they are that expensive, what kinda nexens are they ?

I still think some shopping around could have got you some quality Sumitomo's or Fuzion's, IMO.

They def. fill out the wheelwell better. What coilovers are you running?

Right. $110 ea x 4 equals $440. Then to mount and balance with stems, taxes, 1 year warranty that covers everything all for $487. And if you order from most tire places that $110 dollar tire has shipping, then taking it all somewhere to get mounted and balanced it comes out to more than what I paid. They are cheap tires and I didn't get ripped off. They are Nexen S3000. I read somewhere where the SRT4 drivers were complaining about too much tire spin. I'm not expecting much from them. The only place I'll need more/better tire will be when I take it to Seabring and by then I'll hopefully have CCW classiscs with the BFG KDW's on.
Oh and the coilovers are maxium motorsports 250's I think. I'm getting the matching rears for the IRS swap that I'm getting from a local guy here. I'm pumped.

I think everyone was thinking you got a good deal man, but at least your expectations aren't too high for this tire. I was thinking about them when I just got new ones for my Bullitts, but my friends made me change my mind. After having two tires go flat since I got these tires, the Road Hazard pays for itself.

At least you didn't get bent over for the tires, that actually wasn't bad for some 18 inch tires.

The only reason I ask what kind of coilovers you have is simply for reference, since I travel through Hillsborough/Pinellas daily, when I go to DSpecs/MM Coilovers I was just wondering your spring rate/shocks you are running. Is the ride too harsh?
