Tire Size ?

While not exactly an answer for you...I would just like to confirm your understanding of the following.

1. That a 245 50 15 is 24.7 inches outer diameter which is approx 1 inch +/- smaller diamater than a stock wheel
2. That a 15x7 with 4.5 back spacing will most certainly have hard contact on the upper ball joint/a arm in the front.
 
Rather than using a tire size calculator I simply went to tirerack.com and looked up the specs of a 245/50/15. And since there was only one street tire that was available in that size it was easy to use that number ;) As for stock mustang tire size...I always go by 25.5 because that is what someone else told me. I've never personally seen a mustang with the stock tires on it so I have never been able to confirm personally ;)

With a 7 inch rim you can not go over 4.25 backspacing.

With a shelby drop and proper alignment they might work on the front , however I would suspect the fenders will need to be rolled in the front.

I just put mine on (67 coupe, stock suspension) after following advice from dodgestangs chart and others on various forums. Went 215/60/14 up front and 235/60/14 in back - this is a 14x7 rim with 4.25" backspacing. With that said, the front DID barely rub on the a arm so I ground a coupe mm's of gunk, paint and metal off with my angle grinder and they fit fine. 235's in the back were PERFECT looking, lined up with the outside of the wheel so nicely - but if you wanted to there was still a good bit of room on the inside before it would hit leaf or anything else.



Cliff notes: with 4.25" backspacing you cannot fit larger than 215 in the front without mods. I think it is possible to squeeze 245-255 on the back with this backspace though.
 
Not atm, still detailing engine and all so didn't do any great shots. I will get some posted in this thread for you tomorrow though! Like you, I wanted a nice wide profile compared to what the car had on it before (205/75/14) which were tall and thin. I am VERY happy with the results, makes the car look very tough. I'll get those pics!

I run 245 40 17 on the front of mine without rolled fender lips on a 17x8 wheel with 4.75 BS
I run 255 40 17 on the rear of mine with rolled fender lips on a 17x8 wheel with 4.75 BS


I have the car lowered quite a bit too with 1 inch drop springs and the shelby mod in the front and eye five leafs in the rear. I run edlebrock IAS shock in the front and KYB gas-a-just in the rear. I highly recommend rolling your rear fender lip, ditching the air shocks, and using a 17x8 with the right BS (if you aren't already). You do not need to artificially force the rear end of the car to stay elevated above the tire to run a 245 on the car and sacrafice handling and safety.

Here are my alignment specs that I run that allow me to use my 245s without rolled lips in the front:
Caster: +2.0°
Camber: -1°
Toe: 1/8" in

This is an agreesive alignment, but I drive aggressively. If the car was more of a daily driver I would use and roll the lips if need be.
Caster: +1.5° to +2.5°
Camber: 0 to -.5°
Toe: 1/8" in

I originally had 245x50x16 all around.(68 convertible) the front fenders are rolled and the tire hit only on the drivers side. I installed a package from laural mauntain mustang . 620 ,1" drop springs in the front and 5 leaf mid-eye 1" drop in the back.also did the shelby drop with all new suspension and steering including flaming river steering box. front tires hit worse and the front just was too low. installed 1" spacers on front springs and dropped tire size in the front to 225x50x16. aligned to shelby specs. the car Looks Great and handles even better .it sits about 1/2" higher in the back.
