sure. couple of tire companies make a 285/40/17. in most cases you shouldnt have any trouble running a 275 or a 285 rear tire. the only thing you could run into is rubbing against your tailpipes, and those can be re-adjusted. some guys even run a 315/35/17 rear and dont have to make any changes. if your car isnt lowered, you can probably run a 275 front. i have 255/45/17s on my front 17x9 wheels and thats as wide as i want to go. im dropped with sportline springs and if i run any wider, i will rub.

with the 285/40/17 according to Belltire that is a corvette tire which they increase the cost for. So the limited size difference might not be worth the cost.

285's start at $128 each but to agree with what was posted above, for the minimal size difference i would go with a 275/40. sumitomo makes a 275/40 ( same tires i run ) for $85 each. cant beat the price. and its a wide looking 275 to boot

I ran a 285 in the rear for a set or two of tires when I had my 17's. It fit fine and looked great. I agree with others that there isn't much difference size wise. The other bonus with the 275's is that you can run them front and rear and then you're able to rotate them. That is what I did the last time I put tires on my Cobra R 17's.

275 is the easiest tire to mount but 285 and 315 will fit. You might not be able to get a Belle or a Discount to put a 315 on there though. The liability issue BS.....You might have to get a local mom and pop tire shop to do it.
