hey my buddy is buying new tires for his stock 16" 98 gt rims and I am curious what are the largest width of tires he can run other than drag radials because it is a daily driver. He has looked into 245/50/16...will this fit well...we are looking for the big beefy tire look...what do you all think?

How wide is the wheel? That will determine how big a tire he can run.

245/50/16 is the size I use and they fit perfect. Look great too!

I run 245/50/16's on my '99 16" wheels. The fronts rub ever so slightly on the sway bar at full lock. By slightly I mean they've been on the car for about 30k miles and have only managed to polish the black coating but not rub through it. Last time I ran autoX I did have the left front rub on the fender liner, but that was more my driving, never happens on the street.

I'm with robertdale, they look good.

he runs 7.5 inch wheels...I believe he really wants the 245/50/16...is there a difference in wheel well size between the 98 and the 99 cause one of you said the 245/50/16 fit perfect and the other said they rub slightly??

Let me clarify, I have '99 16" wheels on my '94 GT. As far as I know, the backspacing is the same for the '98 16" and the '99 16" wheels. The rubbing is very very minimal. As I stated after 30k miles, it's only managed to rub the dirt off my sway bar, not the black coating. My car is lowered as well.

The fenderwell rubbing was caused by my extremely aggressive entering of a corner(read: entered way too hot) on the autoX track. They do not rub on the fenderwell on the street.
