In just a short time the stang will be getting some boost and see just about 400 rwhp. Question is I have a 18x9 rear rim with 275/35 rear tires that suck and for sure need to upgraded, I think for the mileage that I put on the car I was going to head towars the Nitto 555r .
NITTO Extreme Performance NT555 Tire (275/35-18) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

Will this size be sufficient with that amount of power, or would I need to grab the 10" rear rims with a 285 or 295 rear tire.

well i can tell ya this much depending on the supercharger you go with 275 will still break loose lol. I have 315 nt555rs and from a 2nd gear punch they get loose now lol. I love 11psi haha

Yea I feel ya, I just hate buying brand new 275 nitto's only to find out the break loose super easy. I don't do alot of racing on the street, but if some punk tried to cetch me off guard at a stop light I want to be ready

Hey! I though we ran you out of town though. Now give me tire advice and buy them for me for my Christmas present.

Even if you stuff a 315 tire in there its not going to stick like you want it to. Unless you're going to run drag radials, you're going to need some suspension upgrades. Tires alone wont make it grip.

I've got/getting sufficient suspension for 400hp (buying shocks and struts as we speak), but I'm just trying to plan ahead. If a 275 NITTO Extreme Performance 555 tire will be excellent on the street then awesome, just wondering if I really be wishing I had bought a 10" rear rim and a bigger tire, either 285 which AM suggest or a 295 tire which I dont see a nitto in that size. Not stuck on Nitto though

i like my nitto drag radials though my best 60' is a 1.80. dunno how good the normal street tire is grip wise. i have heard they are a pretty decent street tire though but for racing it wouldnt be any good.

I have had a good experience with my 555Rs. For me, once they hook they STAY hooked. The only tricky part can be getting them to initially hook from the shock of launch. My 2.3 makes a lot more torque than horsepower, but I've never been able to break them loose from a roll on a dry surface. I'm not that fast, but I've gotten a 1.9 60' with them and gone 12.9 at 107. I'll give them a real test soon, with a small shot of nitrous.

BTW, I don't think tire width makes much difference in traction. I'm running a 245-45-17 nitto and it seems to do just fine. Certainly, tire height, sidewall height, tire compound and suspension make a MUCH bigger difference, with tire width being a very small factor. Wide tires look nice though.

Bingo! Exactly the answer I was looking for. So with the 275/35/18 nittos (non drag) I would be fine? and thanks again

I doubt you'd be "fine" with 275/35's. I was running 285/35's on heavy ass 18x10.5 wheels BEFORE the KB and I could still break them loose.

Now I'm running 305/35 NT555R's and it hooks pretty good on the street. Takes effort to spin em from a stop. But I'm also running a Viper T-56 which has a really tall 1st gear (along with stock rear end gears), so I could also say it takes effort not to bog it from a stop.

I run the nt555(non DR) and i can blow them off from a 2nd gear roll. Not that i do it all the time but i pulled out onto a kinda busy street the other day and traffic was moving a bit faster than i though and had to get on it, and away they went.

right on, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to get two 10" rear rims now, would the 305's be ok on that rim? Looks ok on a few pics i've found, just wonderin if anyone runs it

good point nightmare, if I'm going to have that much HP I should harness it safely, don't want to end up in a ditch or accident because I wanted to go cheap.
