i'm installing a tko 500 in my stang..it calls for GM synchromesh tranny fluid, GM part number 12345349. the penzoil synchromesh states its formulated for transmissions that require GM Part No. 12345349 and its available at all parts stores for about $7 a quart and the GM synchromesh is only available at the dealership for about $10 a quart. i'm thinking about using the penzoil anyone with any experience on this subject or have any idea if the penzoil is as good as the GM brand.give my your recommendations.

Bill, if you want a quick answer, there was a retardedly long and annoying thread over on the Corral about this not super long ago. I dont recall if it was in 94-95-Land or Gen. Mustang Tech though.

I think the consensus was that the Pennzoil fluid (Pennzoil makes Synchromesh IIRC) works fine. I'd also consider consulting the trans vendor/manufacturer - you don't want to do something that invalidates any warranty you might have.

I don't have any answers for you though.

Enjoy the new trans you lucky dog!

I use the Royal Purple Syncromesh fluid in TKO

RP is the best. It's expensive, but why skimp on $20
on a $1,900 trans?

If the tranny doesn't require a certain brand for warranty purposes, I would say go with whichever you prefer givin that the Syncromesh says its compatibable with the GM part number. I agree with rbarn50 though, I wouldn't go cheap on tranny fluid in a trans that costs over $1500.

Im using 3 qts. of the Penzoil stuff. It has a GM prt number on the bottle. I'm sure is the exact same stuff. I have 600 miles on my modified tko 500, I'll be changing the fluid in the spring. Now problems as of right now.
