Interior and Upholstery TMI cloth/tweed interior, is it anything like the original cloth?

I have a 91 LX convertible with black leather interior. The driver's seat needs reupholstered and I'd like to use it as an excuse to go to a black cloth interior. I'm seeking an original, excellent condition black cloth interior (just posted a WTB ad here: WTB/Trade WTB: original black cloth seats for 90-93 ($$$)) and someone replied that I should look into the TMI cloth set. I looked into it a bit, but there aren't really any good close-ups of the cloth material. Is it their standard coarse tweed or is it closer to the OEM cloth?
If you installed a set of TMI cloth seat upholstery in your car, can you post a few pics? Thanks!

This is ACME brand covers.

I was going to install this in my car but it’s for a 92-93 seat. I have a thing for 87-89 seats. Sold it off unfortunately.

But I took pics. The red cloth is factory OeM. The black is the ACME cloth.

Don't expect oem quality from TMI. I assume you mean standard base seats when you say cloth, local guy was selling a miss ordered set, other that never seen anyone recover the base seats in cloth. Best bet is to ask tmi and acme to send you samples. I prefer using acme but I've only done sport seats in vinyl, leather and tweed, pretty much had to give away standard cloth seats if I swapped sports seats into a car... frumpy taxi seats

This an old video of the Opr/ acme kit black tweed with old foam, poor install, but if you ever saw a tmi kit, the fit is more lose since its based around there replacement foam. If you mean tweed when you say cloth and not the base low back cloth seats, both companies use the same material for black tweed.

Wow, that is a poor install in that video!
Yeah, not base seats. Seeking factory tweed on sport seats.

It is kind of close, but you can EASILY tell it's not factory. I don't like it. I have had both TMI and Acme gray tweed.

Thanks for the pic! Is the material fraying at the bottom of the seat back outer bolster? If so, ho long ago did you install it?

The gray definitely is way off. I can instantly tell when i see a car with grey reproduction seat covers.

The black cloth is much closer however. I've had black OE seats and then the ACME covers.

Sounds like if I did go with aftermarket covers that Acme is preferred over TMI due to the fact that Acme uses vinyl welt (piping) instead of tweed which holds up better with use. Because this is for a convertible, I am a little concerned that any aftermarket fabric will fade pretty quickly being exposed to the sun.

Acme use the same material for gray? if tweed I just go black if the stock stuff can't be saved, so don't really pay attention to the gray tweed kits after seeing so many tmi, just too far off from stock. vinyl/leather for me if its got to be gray and not save able. Still have a full acme nib 87-89 coupe black leather kit for the sport seat I got for sub $100. The used 87-89 sport front seats all ways sell here before I can grab a pair even when there shot to hell, have 3 sets of 92-93 sports laying around and they made a bunch less of those lol.

Ha opposite here. I have a set of 87-89 sport seats but got my hands on a ACME kit for 92-93 for under $100. I couldn't even find a set of ragged 92-93 seats so I eventually sold the covers.

I do need foam however, so i am curious if i can run the ACME covers with the TMI foam.

Rebuild your old foam, add a layer on the bolster edges with some burlap to reinforce them, YouTube some old guy upholstery videos for decent tricks some of the old guys can work magic. I used tmi foam once, the first seats I did. My 6'4 ass was denting the roof. Going to try and save this set if they clean up.

I have a thing about only owning solid roof cars, t tops and sunroof cars have less head room btw.... Working for dealers made me hate any car that had a sun roof, rag top, Targa top etc. Flat rate and warranty work will burn anyone out...

The foam would probably work with acme but for what they want for it and how dense/ high it is.... I'd just grab the next 100 set of seats but stuffs getting stupid with prices the last few years. You might want to measure those frames if you got them like that. Seats backs look like the newer low backs frames to me

Before red became semi popular, I used a 90-91 for donor parts, seat back frame and foam, ended up giving the passenger seat and the drivers covers to a local guy for $50.. He was more then happy, looked brand new after he had them steam cleaned.
