is it worth removing the cats on my setup. 331 w/ strim. i notice after mashing throttle sometimes i smell a sulfur odor. also when cruising on highway in 5th gear the mil comes on until i downshift and give it throttle. it runs fine. im wondering if the cats are loading up or something. should i remove them and will i see any performance gain being that its a forced induction setup?

What code(s) is/are being stored?

For off-road use only, you might find that an O/R pipe or even an aftermarket catted H-pipe will free thngs up a good bit.

Yes ... but maybe ... No

You don't say if you are talking about the OEM 4 cat mid pipe

If that is the mid pipe you are talking about it is very restrictive

A true high flow cat is not all that restrictive
but
Sure it would offer more restriction than nothing at all as in an OR pipe

IIRC ... The tests I've seen in the past say about .......
5 or less rwhp for the high flow cat mid pipe

Now

This was NA so a boosted app might could change things

I would say ditch them also, unless you live somewere like california.... you can also make some good money off them. Sold all four of mine on ebay for close to 200 bucks, thats half of a new exhaust system!

All cats are restrictive as hell. They don't hurt your hp too much, but they murder your low end torque.

Just kidding...

I like that cats quiet a car, and that they get rid of the smell of a car... However on my car I get a HUGE resonance with my Catco high flow catted H-pipe on it... No cats is quieter inside the car...

So it is up to you.

As far as going fron 4 cats to 2 high flow, then from 2 high flow to an O/R pipe I noticed the difference in both sound and power each time. This is on a stock NA engine with only an intake system...

Although every 2 years I run cats for a week...

Not having cats doesn't make it much louder if you have good quality mufflers.

I guess I take it for granted that I drive my Stang 500 miles a year, so it's not a polluter. I understand that point of view though.
