Too Loud?

Ok, I'm in a bind. I go back to school in 3 weeks and I'm looking to outrun an 03 GT. I already know he can put 2-2 1/2 lengths on me from a 20-100 roll. I can probably have about $250 by the time school starts back.

My question is would 2chambers Flows w/ turndowns be too loud with a MAC 2.5" offroad H? I have a buddy with an offroad H and a Flowmaster catback. Will it be too much louder than his?

I already have the H-pipe, I just haven't installed it yet. This will be temporary. My plan is, do this, get a TB, Explorer intake and GT40s(also a temporary), and then save for Bassani LT headers, DR. Gas X, and a Magnaflow catback. That exhaust setup will probably be on around Christmas, give/take 2-3 weeks.

If he can put 2-2 1/2 car lengths on you in a 20-100 mph run, there isn't an exhaust system in the world that is going to help you. You are going to need more power then that can provide. Consider nitrous...but don't screw up the installation.

if your on that tight of a budjet, just get cutouts, and spend the remaining 200 on I dun even no what 200 will get you to make enough hp. Maybe a set of explorer gt40 (not P!) heads from the junkyard, the upper intake off the same truck, and have the lower ported. You would need serious connections to pull this off for 200 bucks. But it would put you quite abit ahead.....save up more money. You gotta pay to play.

I'm gonna have the Explorer intake and GT40s when I call him out. He don't know jack about cars. He thinks it's "exactly 303ci., 400hp. If my dad hadn't have tuned it down when I got it, it'd be much quicker. I'm getting a chip for it though and it should have about 475." It's got shorty headers and a Magnaflow catback. His car does run good, but not like he thinks it does. I grew up with him and we're pretty good friends but he's stubborn. You can't tell him anything.

oh well if you already have those parts then maybe consider getting them all ported (and polished is debatably worth it). Then I guess just pull your backseat and spare tire and that crap and I dont see you having a problem.

It's not that I'm on a tight budget. It's an ego thing and I'm slightly impatient. :D I was hoping to have the Magnaflow catback and some heads before school started back, but I work at a local restaurant and they took 19 days off for the 4th of July. So I got put behind schedule and that bothers me.

I just need to know how much louder turndowns are than pipes.

I plan on going with an E-303 sometime soon, but I'm just doing the heads and intake for now. I'm not worried about losing with the Explorer intake and heads, but I don't wanna get pulled over by running turndowns with no cats.

How loud will it be?

ok intense...this is getting confusing.
do this, list everything that is on your car and everything you have that isnt on yet. That makes it much easier to work with a budget.

Ok.

Me, no mufflers. Moroso fenderwell CAI, FRPP underdrives, 3.73s, and Tri-AX.
Him, Magnaflow catback, shorty headers

I haven't raced him yet. I raced a friend with an offroad H, Flowmaster catback and 4.10s from a dig-100. He put 2.5 lengths on me. He raced the known 03 GT from 20-80 and pulled him. The 03 was at his back bumper. I'm assuming from a 20-100 roll the 03 could put 2-2 1/2 on me at the MOST. I'm not gonna run him from a dig, b/c he refuses to go with T/C off.

I think it would be somewhat close if I only had the H and dumps. But, I plan to put at least two cars on him w/ heads and intake.

Callout is approx. 6 weeks away. The $250 is for the dumps. I also have $110 insurance due so that wipes out possible leftover money.

I'm pretty sure the other 3 weeks will get me some heads and intake. Our local junkyard basically gives stuff away.

Sounds like Uncle Sam with our tax dollars

Drop as much weight as possible on a $250 budget ... unless you can find a cheap, used n2o kit.

Also run your car with only an 1/8th of a tank of fuel .... so the ensueing flames from the roll-over won't last too long :D

Like stated above ... exhaust gains will be minimal on your setup.

It's not really a budget. I work part time and bring about $100 for 16hrs. I'm only 16. It's not a budget thing, it's just that I don't wanna wait 4 weeks for the Magnaflows, but instead 1 for Flowmasters which will be replaced with Mags in time. I just want to get the H on fast. But, I don't wanna get a loud exhaust ticket. I appreciate the tips on helping it to go faster, but that's not what the thread is about.

How loud will my car be with turndowns???

i had an o/r h-pipe with flowmasters and no turndowns. just open exit muffler.

it was pretty loud, i never got any tickets for it. i have been told a few times when i romped on it with my old motor i was heard over a mile away. tailpipes or dumps will pretty much be the same loudness outside the car, it will just make the biggest difference inside the car.

with dumps expect to smell like exhaust all the time, get the flowmaster droning, ect. with tailpipes its alot less fumes coming into the car, drone isint nearly as bad.

drop about 100-200lbs weight (free), 100 shot N20 ($300 or so on ebay) and you will easily get him. that would be good for mid-high 12s w/ your combo, assuming you can drive and get traction (not that it will be hard considering you are going froma roll)
