Took my 67 to Maaco yesterday

And after driving it there and the brakes going out I dont care if they paint it pink with purple polka dots and dust in it.

I had my car running fine, what happened, I blew a brake cylinder? Car pulled severley to right when brakes applied, then pedal kept fading and going down- had to pump the brakes and really went slow getting there, cause time is tight and theres no way i was gonna turn around.

Plus I bycyled the 12 miles getting home-


But I had the car 90 % prepped by a friend, and everthing is off the car- I didnt know a car could run with out an insturment panel!


So heres the deal- sharpen all body lines - paint underhood, jambs and trunk, paint inner doors, dash, rear inner panels, and steering column, with Ford Redfire metallic, and paint outside of car with same but with a clearcoat.

1000 even. Thought that was a pretty good deal, and he also said that he would call me after all prep and before car is sprayed to inspect work and see if anything needs to be tweaked.

2 weeks. Well see.

Theyre using Sherwin Williams paint.

The guy that works in Macco is the guy who sanded the body to steel on the roof hood and trunk, and just sanded to smooth the sides. He did it on the side at his garage.

I did all the weld in patch panels and he grinded them down and bondoed it up. I took apart everything, the turn signal hood, the wind splits on the sides, the front valance, all the trim cept for roof rails. Eff that. I welded the GT rear valance so there was no seam.

He then shot the whole car with that hard hi fill polyester primer, and told me hell tweak it at Macco.

He did this work for 425.00

If this car was a fastback, or if I didnt only pay 200 bucks for it, or if it was like my 72 SS 396 Camaro, I probably wouldnt be in such a hurry, or paint the inside interior steel same as the outside, or even have Maaco paint it, but so far so good, as far as the bondo and primer goes. Car looks pretty darn strait. May need door hinge thingies, just dont want to do that now, too busy.

How it comes out is anybodys guess, but Im hopin for the best. If I see the car has been really sanded strait, then thats a home run.

These guys paint cars all day every day and the owner gave me the impression that when he gets a vintage car in he trys to do it right.

They painted my 66 Ford Country Squire a few years back, got that car for a hundred bucks, and after I was done with it won a couple of trophys and sold it for 5500 after havin fun with it for 3 years so what the hey.

Who said Rat Rod Black? Man Rat Race is my middle name- Im currently painting my 71 stroker Camaro Rat Rod black- and after much searching- John Deere Blitz black, 69 Mach I hood paint flat black, Dupont DP90 primer black, I finally found a true Hot Rod Black, by Hot Hues, and its an actual Rodders black thats a paint, not a primer, that will withstand fingerprints, washing, and not chalk. I think its a PPG paint or Dupont I forget. Im still welding in some rocker panel patches, in fact I should be done tomorrow. Ill get the guy from Maaco to bondo that up too, hes pretty damn reasonable, then Ill paint this one myself.

I love that rat rod look! The 71 Camaro stroker was another low budget special, I traded a high milage 91 chevy P/U and a 16 ft aluminum fishing boat for it.

It had 10 different coats of paint on it, and I chisled it all off with a wood chisel.

It just scraped up. This car was cut in the hood and roof and started life as a plain janer so I decided to rod it out and put on velocity stacks, spoke Gasser rims in front and old ET rims in the rear, and of course Ill put the Moon logo on the front lower fender. If I get the paint right this car will be pretty cool, but its set up for the track with a spool, 4-11's 3500 stall and sub frame connectors. I drive on the street anyway. Its a tank.


Cant wait till Stang is done, I bought all new parts for it and am waiting for my BF G's and TT D rims. Pics when its done if paint turns out OK, if not Ill just keep postin on my Camaro board.
