Top Speed with Tunes

I am definitely considering getting a tuner for my GT, most likely an SCT X-Calibrator 2. I was curious as to what the top speed is for GTs without the limiter and with the added HP and TQ from the tune. Also, I want this to be done without my parents finding out about it. I've heard of a lot of incidents where after installing the tune cars just wont start, and if this happens, I'm screwed. SO. I have come to the Pros to discuss this. Show me your ways o' wise ones.

No idea on top speed before or after, but my car runs great after 14K+ miles with the SCT X-Cal from brenspeed

143 mph to start with not sure with no speed limiter and an extra 25 hp.

The problem w/ cars w/ a tune not starting is usually caused by the dealer changing the stock tune during a service and the the owner loads their's on top of it but it is no longer compatible. Brenspeed.com has a write up on their site that explains things better and also tells you how to avoid this.

Best way to avoid is to reflash to stock before taking the car into the dealer for service....

Exactly. Also, I've been 155+ (on the speedo...how accurate that is, I'm not sure) in my car with a Predator tuner (same thing basically but I'd recommend the SCT since it is more widely used for the 05+'s).

Do your parents ever drive this car? If so, they WILL notice the tune, no question about that.

No they don't drive it, but occasionally my dad will ride with me. Really all I'm concerned about is my car goin dead after the Re-Flash.

Yeah, it does. I wouldn't suggest doing it and I don't condone it either. I was on a very open, straight road with zero traffic. I know it's hard not to go fast in these cars especially when stock 3rd gear pulls to 110ish and 4th goes close to 140.

That was a good thing to add to this thread Jenn (even if you do drive a T/A now!). Based on the original posting of that notice, I reinstall the stock tune each time I take the car to the dealer and always verify the cal strategy before reflashing with the 93 octane tune.

I can't believe you guys are responding to this thread. Judging by the apparent lack of maturity of the original poster do you really think assisting him with additional top speed on public highways is wise?????

Ummmm, since I am not a guy and my intention was to clarify the issue with the reflashing, I will assume you are not directing that comment @ me ~D~.

I would say that the statistically speaking the prevailing sentiment was not helpful. I believe 3 folks responded it was not smart and unnecessary to try to achieve what he is asking.

When I skimmed the "Nick Hogan" comment I nodded my head with approval.

I would rate this thread an 8 out of 10 on a "try to divert a life altering catastrophe due to a lack of respect and knowledge of the vehicle driven" scale.

Unfortunately, even at low speeds, individuals who do not have years of driving experience and have no respect for the capability of these RWD cars can still injure or kill themselves and others.

My only advice to the original poster is instead of trying to bump up the power and speed of the Stang, try to locate high performance education events/schools (HPDE/HPDS) in your area to attend. Ask for them as gifts (they run about $175 - $250 depending on the event), because one day they may save your life and in the short run they will get that "have to go real fast" attitude ground down a bit.

I am assuming this guy is a minor (since his parents wield such control). That coupled with the fact that his parents won't allow junior to get a tuner leads me to believe they won't approve him driving on a race track either(even if HPDE).

You know, I am not so sure. I am guessing parents sported the $$ for the car or they are cosigners on the loan.

I don't believe he is a minor, his profile indicates he is a medical office assistant. His interest are cars and medicine. Give him the benefit of the doubt at this rate. Until proven otherwise he is just another member asking a question.
