I was hoping some of ya'll could lend your opinions/experiences with specific clutches/press. plates for a 1970 4spd toploader. It will be mated to a new 345HP 302 crate engine. I do not plan to further modify the engine or ever powershift the tranny. Thanks for the advice.

Stock will do you just fine in that case. I'm running a stock 94-94 clutch /pressure plate setup behind a 450 hp 331 stroker in my 89 Ranger which weighs in at 3800 lbs, no problems here. Just be sure to buy NEW parts, the rebuilt pressure plates tend to give the most trouble.

I changed over my car from an auto to a manual. When I first did this I used crap autozone/pepboys/discount auto units. I finally ponyed up the money for a real clutch. Went with a RAM unit and wow what a difference. Even if you dont need the holding power of performance clutch the life and performance is such a difference I would NEVER suggest going with those crappy rebuilt units.
