I say go with 18s. They look way better then 17s on the New Edge cars. The 17s look good on Aeros.
My 18" wheels are a no name band but my 18x10.5s in the rear weigh 19lbs each. IDK if thats heavy or not Its about 2 lbs lighter then my 19" HREs were.
i was debating this same thing for months. lol. 17's look good but 18's just look so much better. If you shop around you can get 18 inch tires for a pretty good price. I found general exclaim uhp 265/35/18 and 295/35/18 tires at tirerack for a really good price and the optional roadhazard for like 20 bucks a tire. I dont do any drag racing or anything like that so i dont need a very expensive tire ie:goodyear or michelin. I have a bunch of friends using general tires and have heard nothing but great reviews on them. My biggest concern is treadwear and the rating on the exclaims are 360 which is great for a high performance tire, compared to the falken azenis which has a trearwear rating of 180. I dont know about anyone else but i would hate to buy tires everty 15k miles.
I would say go 18". I did that with my car and it was a great decision. Better to go for the 18's up front than spend the money on 17's and then regret it.
I dunno why everyone always thinks that 17" tires are so much cheaper than 18" tires??? If you are going to run a 17X10.5" wheel, you are most likely gonna run a 315 tire, which is around the same price as a 285/35/18, or a 295/35/18 that you would run on an 18X10" wheel. I know that Sumitomo offers a 315 for dirt cheap, but those tires are crap, dont hook for $h!t, wear out quick, & they arent even very wide.... I had them on my old 95 GT & I swear the section width was compareable to a BFG 275/40/17....
