Does anyone have any input regarding Torq? I came across their custom tunes section and they state that they write canned tunes for cammed cars. I emailed tm and they confirmed that yes they can write a tune for a cammed car.

I thought that was almost impossible to tune a cammed car without using a dyno tune.

I would call up Eric Brooks for a tune like that. You will have to download some data logging software I believe but he will get it very close to a full blown dyno tune and it will be safe.

Who does he work for? Torq? My SCT can data log, maybe that'll work.

He is the owner of modfords and Brooksspeed. I am considering renting a dyno for a few hours and having him tune my Tekside that i am building.

Don't do it. Not a knock on Paul or Eric, but don't tune a car with cam(s) or a blower without logging the car on the street and the dyno. Trust me on this.

I’m with Winters98GT on this, It doesn’t matter how talented you are at tuning there is no way to get a proper tune without running the car. What you will get is a box tune that worked well for a car with similar modifications, more than likely they will pull a little timing and add a little fuel to make sure it is safe. I’m sure it will work and will make the car run well but it’s obviously not going to give you the peak performance. I would either buy the necessary equipment to tune your own car or take the car somewhere to have it dyno tuned.

First off which cams are you looking to install on the car? An email tune will be able to get you real close with the cams and most companies offer this now. As Mark stated tuning the car on the dyno is part of the equation but street tuning is where you will get the driveability and performance instead of just a number. That is why I used Torq on my last few cars as my cars weren't just laying down good numbers at the track; but they were daily drivers and were smooth the entire time while some other tuners left me with a real touchy throttle and the car was a task to drive if just wanting to cruise.

It doesn't hurt to do some datalogging on the car but I think you'd be surprised how close the tune will be from the start. I have no doubt Paul will provide you with a good tune and I suggest you mention that you talked to Maddox about it

I was looking at the MHS stage 2 cams. I want to dyno tune it but my nearest tuner is 300 miles away and I figured that a tune like this could hold me over for a while until I had the time to make the trip.

The email tune will be fine for you and shouldn't be an issue to get dialed in with some datalogs. If you were doing extensive work to the car other than just cams (such as ported heads, cams, blower all paired together haha) then it would be likely difficult to fine tune.
