Torque to Yield....what an unnerving procedure

I'm saying that I followed the above procedure exactly. I've also said,......I have a 2 valve 4.6 in the car.

I'd have to go home and refresh my memory on the exact procedure, but it directed me to tighten down in multiple steps, ending with an additional 90-degree twist. That last 90-degrees was a bear with my 18" breaker bar.

The 89 Mustang Factory manual shows 2 steps for the 5.0 engine:
pass 1: 55-65 ft/lb
pass 2: 65-72 ft/lb

There is no mention of torque to yield.

Torque to yield was a feature on modular engines.

The Chilton manual I have details a 6 step procedure for installing the damn head bolts

I didn’t see where you ever said you had a 4.6 in any of the post prior what you did say was

Don't have a 5.0. I have one of those "other" Mustang engines.

As stated by Jrichker the 1989 Mustang Shop Manual says to use the 2 step method to torque the cylinder head bolts.
This is from my 1989 Ford Mustang Shop Manual which hopefully the Ford ASE Technicians use and not the Chilton or Haynes Manual.

My post is from the factory 1993 Mustang service manual that " the Ford ASE Technicians use".

I wouldn't use Chilton's or Haynes' manual for anything other than a firestarter.

you do realize he has a 4.6L SOHC V-8 don't you? I mean to give tech advice without even reading this thread is somewhat silly, no? It seems fairly clear to me that he has a 4.6.

I totally disagree with everything you just said. I knew it was a 4.6, but at the same time I have no mechanical experience with these engines.

#1. I wasn't posting the thread asking for "how to do it" advice,...I was merely making a statement.

#2. You need to turn off (or at least down) the anti-rambling setting on your replies, That first paragraph from you has me still going,...WTF?

#3. Whether or not everyone "knows me" wasn't my purpose in doing the "I know" thing . The point is/ was, that I pay attention to what alot of other people say and do ( and have done). If you'd taken the time to do your own search of the link I offered, you'd see it's been read over 25,000 times (in the last year). How many other people do you think are left here that haven't read it? ( well,.... other than you at least)

#4. Going hand-in-hand w/ the above, had you been a Noob, I would've considered that and not hit you w/ the "where you been hiding" references. Fact is, you're not. Still has me wondering where the hell you've been since may of 2010,( when I showed up here) as I have regularly polluted this forum almost daily for over 18 months now.

#5. If you consider yourself damaged in any way by my "arrogance" I suggest you do another search and copy and print the Un-official Butthurt grievace form from the un-official Butthurt thread. I'm worried. What if I really did hurt his feelings? Try as I may, my arrogance keeps rearing it's ugly head.I mean,.. it's like I have a split personality or something....It's like my arrogance is my,.. my Mr Hyde!! I've began to start referring to my arrogance as he and him (At least when he and I are talking to each other) Just when I think I've been able to get him under control, he rears his ugly head and BOOM! there he is. Pissing in peoples' Wheaties, Kicking the neighbors dog, Stealing candy from little kids, Where will it all end???. Seems like more and more,.................He is becoming....(dramatic cliffhanger music prior to a shocking revelation) .....ME! .

I fear soon I'll never be able to socialize in any scenario, as I will not be able to control him,It'll just be full time MR HYDE and I'll be lost. I must take control before it's too late. I'll have to put a bullet in that man's head. Alas, ending Hyde, means my demise as well,....but if it means that I'll never offend another, then it'll be a worthwhile endeavor.

Now would be the time to visualize me fighting w/ Hyde as we tear up my laboratory, ( the one in my garage, under my house) setting fire to it in the struggle. The remaining formula, (******* 121) spills on the floor as the fire consumes all of my notes destroying any possibility of making any more. A gun suddenly becomes available from some drawer in the carnage,.... and we wrestle each other for control. WHO has it?? is it me or Hyde? OH NO! It's in Hydes' hands,....No,....it's in mine......His/mine, his/mine,.. BANG! I slump to the floor.
Hyde throws back his head, roaring w/ laughter and yells "Now I'm free to pee in all the Wheaties!!!" And as he attempts to turn and walk out of the burning lab,...he stumbles. What's this? (he notices that he too is bleeding from the same wound ) He staggers,..and bangs into a bunch of stuff as he heads for me and falls to the floor.
(right on top of me I might add)
As we both die. The good Dr Madmike, and the Horrible Mr Hyde became one, Ultimately becoming the good Dr. Madmike as the place envelops in fire. The End.
