Toulene...ever use it?

Has anyone ever used Toulene or anything else to make an octane booster. Looking for something safe to put my gas over the expensive and almost useless 93 octane. I did some internet searching but I wanted some extra input. I know if I put 14.6 gal of 93 rated gas in the 15.6 gal tank and one gal of toulene, it will become about 94.3 octane but at a track you want less weight so...4 gallons of 93 octane gas and 1 gal of toulene is 97.2 octane. Now it will be "dry gas" so I guess some lucas gas treatment could help "wet" it back to have the octane rating and the lube properties. What do you think?

If you're going racing, bite the bullet and by racing fuel. Let those who know do the chemistry. By mixing a little here and there, you'll never get a consistant mix and that could lead to bad things happening to your motor.

For much less than the price of a rebuild, you can purchase enough Rocket, VP, Sunoco, or any other high octane unleaded race fuel to get you through a season. We always have to pay to play. Who we pay determines how long we can play. :)

Besides, Toluene is nasty stuff. While not as bad as Benzene, I'll put it right there next to MethylEthylKillyaquick.

From what I've heard(internet folklore that may or may not be true), back in the turbo era of Formula 1, the fuel had lots of Toluene in it. I guess was needed when blowing 75-80psi of boost into a 1.5L...

Only 17psi? You shouldn't need more than pump gas for that unless it's brutally hot out and you have a weak intercooler. For the cost of a gallon of paint-store toluene, you could probably get a few gallons of 110 unleaded. Toluene around here is about $15-20/gal, but it's really nasty to deal with(and bad for health).

I used it with my 1969 Z28 with about 11:1 CR and it worked fine. I used a concentrate and poured it directly into the tank each time I got gas. It was only an ounce or two per 20 gallons. Never pinged and the bearings looked great after 20,000 miles driving it all over, going to school, and some drag racing. That was 15 years ago so maybe gas is worse now.
