TPS Location on '89 2.3 N/A

Sorry if this has been asked before but I've tried searching several different times and haven't seen anything.

My stang has had a rough idle for awhile now that seems to be getting worse. It also tends to stall when cold. I've noticed that engine bogs a little when I step on the gas after shifting when cold. I've already cleaned out the IAC and adjusted the idle so I'm thinking the TPS needs adjusted or replaced. The only problem there is I'm not quite sure where the TPS is. I get that its near the intake and throttle body somewhere but there seems to be a whole lot of plugs and wires in that area, none of which look to have the screws to adjust.

Eventho has a really nice write up in here somewhere but it's for a Turbo 2.3 and the pics don't show up anymore so it doesn't help location wise. Can anybody point me in the right direction or, even better, have any labled pictures?

Also, I wondering if the check engine light would be on if the sensor is bad because it's not. It does occasionally flash around 3,000 rpm which I'm thinking would be the 02 sensor. What can ya tell me?

The TPS is actuated by the throttle plate. It is *almost* always located on the opposite side of the throttle control on the throttle body for every car out there. I believe you have to take the IAC off to get to it.

Does your car ever throw any codes? Two things than can cause a rough idle are bad o2 sensors and dirty egr valves. Those are two other things to check if the TPS isn't the culprit.

You can test the TPS with a multimeter...you probably already know that from the write-up you were looking at but if not, just give a shout.

Goland55 is correct. A bad O2 and dirty EGR can cause rough idle. Could also be time for a Motorcraft only tuneup. Before you do anything, you need to run codes. That'll send you in the right direction.

Yup, the TPS is on the back side of the throttle body (the side closest to the firewall). It's kind of a pain to reach back there to replace it or adjust it, but you can get to it. The IAC is right on top of it, so you kind of have to bend and contort yourself to get a look at it.

Definitely pull your codes. My CEL was not on when I got my car, but I pulled the codes and the code for a bad TPS came up. So if yours is bad, the CEL will not necessarily come on. As mentioned above, you can easily check the voltage from the TPS as you manually open the throttle valve to make sure it's working right.
