hello, my car is really tore up right now. it needs an o2 sensor, a bolt drilled, new injectors(i believe they are clogged), and just put a known working tbird 5.0 fuel pump in. anyway, it still doesn't run like it used to before it was wrecked into the bayou(just the rear end, the water was half way up the back glass and my wife did it.) i tried to crank it but i let off before the engine caught and it fired once and backfired in the engine or mufflers.(not to sure). i tried to crank it right after and the motor shot straight up to to 3100 rpms. would a backfire do that to the tps sensor. this is a 95. the engine light has been on forever before the it went for a swim and it ran fine before then.

Dude I don't even know where to start.

A TPS can easily cause RPM fluctuations (like starting up at 3000 instead of 1500). But I can't see the TPS as causing serious backfiring/afterfiring like that.

Sounds like the car has some pretty serious issues....

i know the backfire was not caused by the tps. i just did not crank the engine long enough for it to start, but it fired once right after i let off of the key and since the engine was not turning anymore it backfired and did nothing. after i cranked it, it went to 3000 and would not go down. the car does have big problems, i am replacing the injectors tomorrow as i think a big amount of my problems are because of them. thanks
