Has anyone replaced their TPS? If so, how did your car perform while it was bad and how did you know? Every code I have been pulling is about the TPS. Pedal on the floor my car wont go above 90 mph and it wont push past 3000rpms. It just sticks at 3000 and starts jumping like its choking. A new one is only 45 bucks so I already ordered a new one. Hopefully thats it but wont find out till tomorrow.

Seems like you're having the symptoms of a bad TPS. Usually a car will buck when you try to accelerate. If that doesn't fix it, i would check into your timing components.

Did you check its performance with a voltmeter? You connect the black meter lead to the TPS ground (dont use any other means to ground the meter lead) and connect the red meter lead to the signal return wire.

With the key on, car OFF, and a closed throttle, you should see ~.8-1.0 volts. Most guys like to set it at about .96 volts.

Now slowly (I mean slooooooooooooooooooowly) start opening the throttle blade. The reading should rise in a linear fashion and finish off at around 4.5 volts (+/- 10%). Look for any dips in the reading (this is where an analog volt meter works great because you can see the needle drop).

If you dont see a range of values like that, post up. I wont comment about the rest since we dont have enough info about which code was spit exactly.

.6 at closed throttle. When opened full throttle it was at 4.6 According to the manual i have thats so/so but im out of ideas and patience. Its a bummer having a pony that cant run.

You probably shot a lower limit code with that 0.6 CT reading.

You could try adjusting it so that the baseline reading is closer to 0.96 volts and see if the code goes away.

If there were no deadspots, that WOT reading should be fine. I'm not sure the TPS will solve the lack of MPH. I had assumed that you meant it wouldnt go above 3K RPM in top gear - it goes above 3K in lower gears, right? Just making sure. Otherwise, an ignition issue is quite possible.

I dont know how to adjust it. Thru 1st and 4th it will go above 3k but it hesitates pretty bad. It seems like im in neutral and just revving my engine. In 5th it sticks at 3k and you can feel the car jump. Its like ive got an anchor attached to my axle.

Oh, and as far as ignition I replaced my cap and rotor along with the wires and coil about a month and a half ago.

This might be a dumb question, but is your spout connector plugged-in? I'm thinking you might have similar symptoms if you were only seeing base timing at higher rpm's

I was thinking more along the lines of the TFI module. One sign of a bad one is that the car has issues revving above about 4K RPM (give or take a little).

Parts stores can bench test them.

Turn the key on, hook up your test leads to the tps sig rtn wire and ground, and see what you get (closed throttle). Then loosen the screws a bit, and try turning the tps and see if you can get it closer to 1V. Then tighten the screws and see if it stays there. Some people have to drill out the holes a bit to adjust it.

Also, DEFINATELY take the screws out, and replace them with hex-headed bolts instead. Phillips screws should not be anywhere near a car
