Last track outing was a best of 14.51 w/ 2.13 60ft - added Nittos and had a bit cooler air.

  1. 14.105 @ 95.13 w/ 1.967 60ft (8.954 1/8)
  2. 14.224 @ 95.15 w/ 2.027 60ft (9.054 1/8)
  3. 14.407 @ 94.47 w/ 2.016 60ft (9.189 1/8) - Floor mat stuck under gas pedal :owned:
  4. 14.033 @ 95.32 w/ 1.920 60ft (8.883 1/8) ***BEST
  5. 14.186 @ 95.27 w/ 2.056 60ft (9.039 1/8)
  6. 14.084 @ 95.68 w/ 2.003 60ft (8.957 1/8)

I went out expecting a 14.25 but did a bit better on the first pass so I set my sights on a 13.99 pass but didn't quite get there.

Had a bit of problem w/ my twEECer - was running WAAAY rich down the track... 10:1 and didn't have any timing advance going so I upped everything 4* and recalc'd the MAF Transfer. Loading the tune into the twEECer the car would start but when I put it in gear would cut off. Played with it and remade the tune a couple times but still ran into the same problem so I left it alone.

I've got a bit more time to be made up in the tune and in the launch... I ran the Nittos at 25psi on the first couple runs then dropped them to 16psi for the rest of the day. I did a killer burnout on the first run - the rest of the runs were just pansy burnouts... you've gotta get the Nittos HOT to make them stick.

All in all it was a great day - around 50deg with a stout headwind making it cooold (for Louisiana) - I love TNT's during the day where you can actually see everyone's car and see who the heck you are talking to. :)

Props to my boys Sage2k and The Green GT.

Pictures from the day here.

P.S. Oh yeah and my boss sucks for hitting a 12.9 in his stock SRT8 300c. Those cars are baaad!

Nice times. I'm sure you will be into the 13's soon.
Now a common misconseption is the burnout is putting heat in the tire and that is making it stick better. I was watching a show on the tube and they had M/T rep. He was explaining about slicks and drag radials. He said he would bet that if you did a burn out with either and launched the car then you did a burnout and waited 5 min and launched the car that the tire would stick the same. The burnout is to expose fresh rubber that is sticky. not heat. His words not mine. Another thing that i would try if i were you is 20 and 18 psi in the drag radials. i was told you should not really go below 18psi. just a tought. BTW do you check your tires before everyrun? the sun on a tire will increase the tire pressure. so sometimes you will need to air down the side in the sun.

While that is good information on the ET's, it doesn't apply to every compound of tire, especially the nittos. The nittos last longer than the other DR's on the market because their compound is a little different in that the "rubber" is a bit harder when its cold, but it changes when it gets hot and becomes softer. A lot of the other tires like the MT are soft all the time and don't require as much heat to get the rubber softer. I've run nitto's for 6 years and I can assure you that they hook better when you get a nice long burn into them. BFG also recommends against a long smokey burnout on their DR's because the rubber tends to ball up and form a sort of rubber ball bearing on the surface of the tire. I don't know how true this is in the real world as I have not run the BFG's personally, but it is what the BFG rep told me.

I never run my tires below 17-18lbs at the track, and as 86bluecobra mentioned they will increase in pressure after being in the sun, and after a burnout. My car became inconsistent at air pressures below 17lbs. This also holds true for my MT ET streets, they work better on my car with 18-22lbs of air pressure.

Good stuff - I definitely see what you're talking about 86bluecobra - I had some E/T Streets in my shop for a while and the compound was always soft but picked up dirt and whatnot just rolling them around my shop.

The Nittos hook like night and day on the street after warming them up... they're very moody but when they hook, life is good. Like killercanary said, the compound on them is somewhat hard until you get them hot. I guess that's how they pull off 10-15k miles out of the tires and still make it hook decent for the track.

At the rate I'm going I don't see getting 10k outta my Nittos however. :)

I'll try raising the pressure up a bit to around 18 next time. Next time out I should have my control arms put on. I was really wanting a 1.8 60ft but couldn't seem to work the throttle well enough to get there.

I'll get it next time... there's always next time haha.

Yea, you wore that helmet for nothing. :p

Man that thing was badass. Did he get better times when he ran it without the airfilter? And see if you can get him to let you test fit that camera mount.

'Verts get the pleasure of wearing a helmet regardless of what they run. Plus you gotta admit I look dead sexy in a helmet. :D

I think T-tops may fall in the same category too.

I will borrow it from him and see if it will fit our seats. His best was that 12.9 against me - removing the air box he ran a 13.0 and 13.1.
