I just bought a 99 GT. I know the car has ABS but not sure if it has TC. Im guessing it doesnt since it does not have a switch. My question is does this mean my car doesnt use this feature? Im sure it doesnt have a TC switch so that means it doesnt have TC equipped right? Is this a good thing for racing or bad? Please explain, Im new to all this. Thanks

No traction control until '01 I think... I think it was an option or something as my instrument cluster has the light that goes off when the rear wheels loose traction...

I think it is good for racing... they used it in Formula 1 until it was banned one or two seasons ago...

i dunno about the whole "til '01" thing man, i have a 99 GT and i have traction control.

to the OP, if you dont have a switch at the bottom of your console, in front of your shifter, then you dont have TC. Be wary though, if you see any noticeable cutting or modifications done around that area, you might've had it and someone removed the switch or something  i've seen it before lol

most likely, you don't got it, nothing to worry about. Now you can go spin crazy and do burnouts without worry :D helps a BIT in the rain as mixed said, but not much.

Mine is a 2000 GT Premium w/o traction control then?... you got me thinking here... I've always wondered what that small round hole in front of the shifter is... I got the car second hand... I will take a pic and post it here so you can shed some light...

Your '99 got it as an option? or it is always on?

if its got a conspicuous hole there in front of the shifter, it might be where the switch was. post a pic and i'll let you know, or ill post a pic of mine later.

as far as it being an option, its just always on by default tune. As soon as it feels excessive wheel spin, it'll automatically apply brakes and cut fuel. However, the switch that is in front of the shifter allows me to turn off TC at any time, so it doesn't apply brakes or cut fuel when i don't want it to. I press the button, and "OFF" is illuminated, so its off lol Once i turn the car off and back on, TC is automatically enable again until i press the switch again. The light on the dash should only come on when TC is in operation, say when you do a little peel out or hit some water and spin a bit and it applies brakes and cuts gas, which bogs it down noticeable amount.

mine is a 99 GT, i guess premium, not sure, came with Mach 460 system but not much else that i know is an option

also, TC can be permanently disabled through handheld tuner IIRC, so that might be why you've never gotten the light to turn on or TC to activate if you did have it before.

Good thang! really didnt want to have TC on all the time. Ive heard youll look like an idiot if u try a burnout with it on... As far as rainy days go, Ill take it easy and watch my turns. Thanks yall

Nope, they work together and it was something like a $700 option.

So this means that even though I dont have a switch for it, its always active??? What kind of s#!t is that, stupid Ford! Well Im gonna try the test, see what happens!! If it does stall, is there a way to deactivate the TC, I couldnt care less for it, thanks

In 99-04 GTs, if you have ABS, you have TC.

Not true

For 99-00 it was a standalone $300 option that required ABS. In other words you could buy a car with ABS, but not get T/C unless you sprung for the option.

In 2001, it became a package deal with ABS so that they came together.

So for a 99/00, if you don't have the traction control switch next to the shifter, then you do not have traction control but you could possibly have ABS.

For 01+, if you don't have the traction control off button under the radio, then you dn't have ABS or traction control.

I beleive for 01-03, ABS/TC was standard on the GT..so they all got it. For 2004, ford made it an $800 option. There are a lot of 2004 GT's out there with no ABS or T/C.

You can live without T/C...but the Mustang's ABS is actually pretty decent and I specificially wanted a Mustang with it. I also don't buy the whole "real racers don't need ABS" arguement. I autocross, and the cars with ABS have an easier time through the course than cars without it
