Ok, now in addtion to installing my trailer hitch on my 06 Stang, then finding out it may have been impossible to hook up the trailer lights, I've now gotten past that. Went back to etrailer.com and ordered a module kit that powers the trailer lights off the battery. The part number for the module is 18146. This is a Drawtite kit, and works on the Stang although they don't list it for that application. It's made for Dodge and Jeeps but they also have a system that doesn't allow splicing and running the lights directly off the vehicle's circuits. I also ordered the wiring kit to run the wiring from the battery,(Drawtite kit #18151) but you can save some money here by just buying the wiring locally. The wiring kit just consisted of about 20' of 10 ga. wire and an inline fuse holder with a 10amp fuse. Plus a few plastic wire ties. You can mount the module in the trunk behind the rear trunk trim. This is also where I tied the module into the stop/tail/turn signal circuit. I ran the power wire along the right side light harness, up under the back seat, then tucked it under the rocker trim to the right kick panel. Ahead of this is a large grommet with the main harness passing into the engine bay, in that grommet, theres a 1/2" "nipple" that looks like it's there for auxillary wiring, I fed the 10ga. wire thru this into the engine bay. This grommet dumps into the bay beneath the battery, you can pull the battery and tray to help access this area. Then pull the inner fenderwell liner back ( you don't have to remove it, just pull it off to the side)to see the area under the battery. I passed the wire up to the battery thru the hole in the rear corner there. Everything worked perfectly after the install.

My truck doesn't have A/C ( since I swapped in the V8) and the Stang gets twice the fuel mileage, so I prefer to haul whatever I can with the Stang. Did it with my old 67 fastback 427 car, I'll do it with this one too.
