My car has been sitting for about a month now and I've finally got the itch to drive it again and do the repairs needed..Just wanted to get some insight from you folks on what's possibly wrong with it..It sounds like the throw-out bearing cause when the clutch is engaged the knocking noise goes away when it's not engaged it's noisey as hell and sounds like a rod knocking..The other symptom is that when you move the car it seems like the tranny locks up and comes to a violent stop..Just wanted to know if this a T/O bearing issue or worse the transmission?

Thanks in Advance

Transmission is lunched. :rlaugh:

I'm sorry man, it's not funny that your tranny's hurt, I just like the term "lunched". But I also want to confirm that a kid back in high school had the same issue - Lost the transmission only two weeks before graduation. He was... Well...

:uzi:  :bang: :fuss: :damnit:

Or something.

change the TO bearing retainer on the transmission...that will eliminate that annoying sound when the clutch is not depressed... as far as tha trans. getting lunched goes...lol i dunno i'm not much of a T5 trans. guy

Thanks for the replies..Yeah it only moves about 6ft and then it locks up,guess I'll be looking for a tranny..I don't drive the car much other than the occasional trip to the track and nice days, but this happened at a redlight making a u-turn driving sane with the A/C on and the car goes "BANG" and jumps out of gear, explain that too me? Anyone heard anything positive on the G-gorce T-5 ?

that's the second time you've suggested replacing this very part when you have no idea what you're talking about. I understand you wanting to help others, but it's not a good idea to give tech to people when you've never done the work yourself. You're gonna have all kinds of people yank their trannies for no reason. Do you even know what a bearing retainer, looks like or what it's function is? the bearing retainer itself is usually the problem in maybe 1-2 out of a hundred.

rant off.

However, in this case, I agree, your tranny is lunched. Lots of people love the g force, consider also a tremec tranny.

Depending on your budget, you have some good options.

I've heard Tremec's TKO is a good bet for a higher-powered engine. I also have heard nothing bad about G-Force transmissions. Now, is the G-Force just a revamped/rebuilt T5? I'm not terribly familiar with them but what I do hear is good.

Edit: TO Bearing question: Does a bad one tend to make noise when under heavy throttle, or all the time, if its on its way out?

Mine did it, on my honeymoon, getting on the turnpike five minutes from my house, driving like a granny, hit 3rd got to 2000 rpms "Bang" poped out of gear and could hear parts flying around. I got off at the next exit and it completely locked up at the toll booth. They thought I was being a smart a$$ because it would move a foot if i played with it, then come to a screeching hault. Good luck.

I had a car once that had a fly wheel that had the bolts come loose. I thought that the rod was knocking or something was wrong (BAD). I was 16 and did not know much about cars so I decided learn for myself and took the tranny out. There were two bolts out of six holding the fly wheel in. One of the bolts had three threads left. It was ready to come loose. I am not saying this is your problem, but the only way you will know what the problem is is to either pull the tranny and inspect everything related, or take it to a tranny shop and have them fix it (if you have no clue what to do). There is obviously something majorly wrong and it is not the throw out bearing. My advice is not to drive it until you fix it. If you have to pay $75 bucks to have it towed, its better than wrecking or causing other injury to yourself or others.

4dStang--agree with you it's been parked since it happened just moved that day to free up some space for people with vehicles in the neighberhood

Have you ever noticed when your driving your bucket/other vehicle that vettes/camaro pull up next to your more at a redlight? or is it just me? I've had some serious cars pull up to me this pass month or so daily..Take today a souped WRX pulls up and I'm driving a Mazda 626 damn!

Having the car towed friday to a local shop....Thanks
