When I first tried to crank the C.B., it immediately started smoking from under the dash!!!
I ran out of the car undecided whether to go for the fire extinguisher or a wrench to undo the battery cable. On the way to the extinguisher I passed a pair of pliers on the ground and did a major turn back toward the car. I got the neg. cable off and kept the thing from going up. The interior was filled with smoke, so much so that I couldn't see anything inside the car!!!! I rolled down both windows and dove under the dash: big mistake. I don't know if you've ever smelled, ( or smelt, for us southerners), burning wire but it is nasty! It completely took my breath and I had to get out.15 minutes later, I got in and took the ashtray out to survey the damage. It looks like goo
I will probably need a new ignition switch and harness that attaches to it. I have no idea what happened but it felt like the switch came unplugged or broke and maybe some wires were touching the metal under the dash causing it to short circuit.
So, do I need the harness that goes through the firewall, across the radiator, and to the solenoid, or the whole under the dash harness?
