I Installed A New clutch kit about 6 months ago and now somthing is squeking and my clutch pedal is vibrating. also when driving around as i slow down like say when coming to a red light the engine will rev by itself to about 1500 rpm then come down then up again then back to normal. it makes a weird rubbing/grinding sound in the transmisson when it does this. what could be causing this?

Well I didnt actually do it myself, i had someone do it so i dont know if the fly wheel was surfaced. the kit came with a new tob i assume it was put in. i didnt see the retainer though. How would i b able 2 tell if the clutch was aligned properly?

Similar sitauation

I have a 98 stang gt with the t-45 and had a similar situation. It sounds like the throwout bearing, thats what happened to mine. The trans would squeal really loud in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. It sounds like it's ripping apart, then would quiet down in 4th. As far as the reving goes, that could be the idle air control on the throttle body. In the summer they seem to rev up when coming to a stop and in the winter it revs really low (almost cut off) when coming to a stop. I'm not a mechanic by no means but i hope this will help out.

I also suspect the iac but havent checked it cause it does it as soon as i push the clutch in so i figured it was some how linked to my tranny problem... what do i use 2 clean my iac? can a tob really go out in a matter of months? i forgot wat brand i got but it wasnt cheap. the squeeking sound goes away when i have the clutch pushed all the way in.

As far as the IAC goes, put a new one on. As far as the throwout bearing and/or clutch goes, whew thats lot of work, if it's the tb. I would start with whoever installed it but chances are it's been 6 months and they usually guarantee their work for about 30 days. Man that sucks but try to find any reciepts, etc. I suspect this is the problem but i hate to tell you wrong. No it should last years if it's new. But i will say that the noise will probably go away, however, it will not be a good smooth shift. Man you need someone to look at that trans. If the shop used the correct pilot shaft tool to line up the clutch, etc. Then the trans should be right against the engine, no gaps whatsoever. A proper lined trans will slide right into place, also there's 2 pegs on each side of the trans to hold in place, all this has to be lined up properly. Hope this helps

Because if it wasn't, it couldn't be installed. :) The alignment tool is only there to make it possible to slide the tranny input through the clutch disk and into the pilot bearing on the crank. If it isn't aligned, you can't get the tranny to mate up. It can't be misaligned once everything is bolted up. If it isn't aligned on installation, or if the installer is sloppy and lets the tranny droop while mating things up, the clutch disc can be warped...
