So today the motor went into the 80 coupe finally... but i have a problem with the trans crossmember... the mounts for it are not far enough back... maybe a couple inches further back and i could bolt the tranny mount to the crossmember... any ideas???

the engine and tranny are from my 91 lx that i wrecked back in august... its an AOD and 5.0...

i'll take pics tomorrow...

thanks sn

is the crossmember out of the 80 or the 91? im not sure how the 4-eyes do it, but i know the 87+ cars have different crossmembers for auto/manual, which use the same parts but the sticks have the crossmember welded further forward on the the support tubes. you should be able to just grind off the welds (dont cut the tubes) and just knock the actual crossmember forward/backward to where you need it.

The crossmember is from my 91. That's what I was thinking about doing, moving the actually crossmember mounts forward. You still have to cut the tubes tho, bud. The tubes for 82-93 are 4.5" long and the 79-81 are only 2.75", so they would have to be cut. How much do you think it would run to have a welder relocate the brackets?

cut the spot welds and mark where the tubes need to go.
im assuming you dont have a welder, they shouldnt charge too much all they have to do is make a couple spot welds.

This one shows where the transmission pan will be contacting the crossmember...

And just a few extra's... i wanted to see the capri fender's... i think they'll look good. but if not i have an extra set of mustang fenders for it.

Some wet leaves on the fenders
