My friend just bought a older tko tranny for his fox mustang, now the input shaft is 26 spline while the output shaft is 31 spline. The slip yoke he has is a 31, but there is a notch in it, but when you look at the output shaft on the tranny there is no notch. Are we susposed to hammer it on or is it susposed to slip on really easy, something doesn't seem right. Can't get this thing on to save our lives. any help is greatly appreciated.

yeah, kinda like what a harmonic balancer has. There's the spline slots and than like a blank keyway spot, but on the output shaft of the tranny there is no notch for a keyway only the 31 output splines. There is also a rubber cover seems protecting the output shaft, are you susposed to remove that

so you mean there is a blank spot on the driveshafts slipyoke and on the tranny they is no blank spot, if this is what you mean it is made like that and will work with no problems. my t5 is like this too.

exactly, I was looking a a stock 28 yoke and it has the blank spot to, but I can't for the life of me get the tko's yoke on it. I can't press it on by hand, isn't it susposed to just slip on easily, I really don't want to hammer that bad boy on there

clean the hell out of it. if you have the old tranny still,see if it will go on easy

the stock tranny has a different yoke (28 spline), whereas the tko has a 31 spline. I just don't see how come its so hard to put a yoke on the output shaft. I'm glad we checked this now beofer bolting it up to the frame and tried to slide the driveshaft on.

when you have to resort to vice grips and beating stuff on thats ghetto...if your gunna beat it on use a rubber hammer or some wood youll be sorry if you score that all up

NO HAMMERING ALLOWED!!! The yoke has to be an easy slip fit, because as the rear axle moves up & down, the yoke slides back & forth on the output shaft. If it binds, you will have problems.

I got it finally, part of the rubber protective bushing thats on the output shaft was torn and stuck to the spline. Thanks for all the help guys, just happy it was a false alarm.
