hello everyone
i have a 97 gt with a 4r70w thats got a pretty decent leak (about a quart a month). it appears to be leaking around where the output shaft meets the case. i saw something about this on a post about another transmission, but is it possible to fix this without taking the tranny out? just detach the driveshaft or something and replace a seal?
thanks for your help

yeah you should be able to replace just the seal. I dont think i've ever done one on that particular trans but if its anything like a pinion seal on other trans/t-cases then its pretty straight forward. after you drop the driveshaft theres probably a bolt holding the coupler that houses the u-joint. zip that bolt off and pull the seal, then gently install the new seal and put the bolt back on, but be sure to either a- mark the bolt and case or b- use a torque wrench. i usually just mark the bolt then zip it on with an impact untill it reaches the mark on the case. then you know you are round-about the same toque as before. i've had no problems with that so far but many people will tell you never to use and impact and to use a TW and proper torque sequence.
