Thanks guys i just got caught up with it saying automatic trans fluid. It would be a 88 T5.
Adam, so much for my logic. :D (it was worth asking).

ATF is what ya need. Enjoy. :)

No, really -- Somehow my post got lost for a little while and didn't show up until after the year was posted. Oh well.
I wondered if something happened. I was offline for an hour and came back and I had to re-log back on (it usually saves my cookies). I wondered if the site went haywire while I was gone (there were not many new posts in that time, it did not seem).

The other day i got some Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF Dexron/Mercon and i didnt notice that it said automatic transmission fluid til i got home. Can i use it in a T5?

That's the same stuff I had in my t5...and it wasn't pretty. When I put it in, all I heard was chunking around; like my tranny was blown.

Granted, it's an old crappy trans from a junker, but it didn't make that much noise in the other car. I asked some of my buddies, and I was told to "cut" the fluid with some gear lube. NOW DON'T EVERYONE YELL AT ME FOR USING GEAR LUBE; I know it says to use ATF, and you SHOULD use it.

I just wanted to make a point that on my old beat-up tranny, the ATF was too thin & I needed to thicken it up a bit...not a lot though. I emptied just under a quart from the tranny, maybe like 3/4 of a quart. And replaced that with some standard gear lube. It's quited the noise A LOT, and I've had it in there since November without any adverse affects so far.
