Transmission swap - DIY job or take to a shop?

Well, my T5 finally gave it all up. I am getting a rebuilt T5 to replace it. Can I do this in my driveway or should I pay a shop to do it?

Sounds good guys! Thanks for responding. I checked out my Haynes manual and it looks pretty straight forward - no special tools or machine work needed.

Why go T5 again? Wish I could do a T56 but I don't have the funds for any sort of upgrade.

Okay after doing some research and weighing all my options, I have decided to go with a GForce T5. There is a local shop that builds them and I will have mine on Tuesday. I like the fact that it uses the stock T5 form factor and weighs less than any Tremec or T56. There has been a lot of things said about GForce but it's all about the service and never about the performance. We'll see if it makes all my wildest dreams come true.

it will take a little more than 2 hours, the h-pipe has to come off, gotta pulll the shifter, drop the driveshaft, ect... its not complicated, but it does take longer than you think. laying on your back gets old quick. good luck and make it as fun as possible.

do it yourself!!!!! If I can do an auto tranny with my fiance without a lift, then you shouldn't have any problems doing yours lol.

Plus...... total cost was $100 bucks for my new auto transmission. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it ricers!!!!!!!
