Transmission Swap is complete, now some problems...

Well after 4 days of slow work, we go the transmission swap complete. The AOD-E is out and the T5 is in. Now I have some problems

1. It's hard to shift into 2nd, it grinds, and makes noises but then works fine.

2. There is a little vibration when in idle, it sort of goes away and then comes back. I'm not sure what that is.

3. How tight is the Steeda adjustable cable supposed to be? I think we might have it too loose.

4. I'm not sure if #1 is related to this, but I might not have the Pro5.0 back stop bolt far enough.

We only drove it around the block a couple times and then called it a day. The car definately feels lighter, maybe because of the weight savings or the increase of power.

Oh and here are all the parts we used...

used 94 GT T5 with 40,000 miles
Pro5.0 shifter
Steeda quadrant
Steeda adjustable cable
Ford Racing King Cobra clutch

everything was torqued to spec

sounds like the synchros are going south on the tranny, as long as your clutch is releasing about 1/4 to 1/2 way up it should be fine. your vibration could either be you didnt line up the driveshaft with the same bolt pattern and it lost its factory balance, or maybe the flywheel has been unbalanced by resurfacing it

I think the grinding may have to do with the steeda adjustable quadrant. The shirft just back the bolt off a bit and see what happens. Was this used t5 rebuilt or you know for a fact it was i working order?

The T5 is used, it has 40,000 miles on it, and it was in my friends 94 Mustang GT before he swapped in a Tremec. It worked fine in his car before he took it out. The driveshaft is lined up right for sure. And the flywheel is new, it's a 50 oz imbalance.

I would play with the quadrant to see if that cures the grinding problem.

dude, just check over everything that you said. The synchro's should be a last resort due to the PITA, but it's possible, yes, even on one with only 40,000. I'd check the shifter and the cable first. As for number 2, how long have you had it running? You're using an AODE computer, so it might be trying to send signals and such at idle. If you remember, an auto idles differently when at idle in or out of gear, so it doesn't know what to do now.

I would check the quadrant and make sure the cable is adjusted correctly, caused problems when my friends 94 just got the adjustable cable, he thought there was a serious problem because of some slight grinding, I adjusted the cable a little, and worked fine.

So far it ran for about ten minutes. Five minutes of that was driving it. I am using a T4M0 computer, it's a manual computer. I'm pretty sure the cable is adjusted wrong. I'll work on it later today.

Well I think I fixed the shifting problem. Now I realized that there's another problem. The shifter shakes a bit and you can feel the car is vibrating a bit. Is the shifter supposed to shake a bit? My friend's nissan runs fine and his shifter shakes a bit so maybe that's normal. But I'm more concerned about the car shaking. I can have it in neutral at a full stop and between 2000 and 3000 rpm it vibrates the car. My car always vibrated a bit, even with the AOD-E the steering wheel was shaking a bit. The balancer was replaced about a year ago with another stock one. I don't feel or see any rubber potruding outside the balancer.

How are your U joints????They may be on there way out. When mine went out it felt like the tranny was going to drop to the floor.

did you use a new trans mount or did you use one that came with the t5?

I used the trans mount that was on the AOD-E. We are still having vibration problems. The shifting into 2nd problem was fixed by moving the stop bolts on the shifter. The vibration we have is in neutral or any gear, driving or standing still, it vibrates above 2000 rpm. Also you can kind of hear the vibration at idle. It makes a bass kind of sound but it's not loud. I think it's either the flywheel or the clutch assembly. I cleaned the MAF sensor and it didn't help much. Let me know if you guys have any ideas.
