Does anyone know of a 5-speed manual transmission that bolts up to a 1965 Fastback with a 289? I'm looking so I don't have to cut any holes in the floorboard to be able to fit the shifter correctly. I want it to look as stock as possible but have the comforts of a 5-speed.

I've heard bad things about T5's, I was looking more towards TKO. Maybe some more help from other people would be great. The thing is with the T5 I heard you have to cut some stuff from the floorboard so you can get the shifter/linkage to fit.

T5

There is no external linkage on the T5 or TKO. An aftermarket shifter can be tougher to install but a stock one is easy.

Some have installed a TKO with no problems; some had to cut the tunnel for the proper driveshaft angle.

any writeups on a T5 swap? where do you buy them, most i have found wont hold up to more than 350ft/lbs

try the search feature for a writeup, been lots of them. because of the 350ft/lbs limit is why i went with a toploader. the TKO swap is more than i wanted to get into right now not to mention the cost. maybe later.

Youve heard bad things from idiots that powershift third gear. Ive seen many t5s hold up in 12 and 11 sec cars. i went with the Z for newness and higher first gear ratio. Is you 65 a standard already? You probably dont have enough power to need the TKO, like myself. Even if you have to cut the hole alittle wider, no one will be able to tell its trimmed with the rug and boot on.

Come to find out, my bell housing is that from an automatic. So I don't have stock 4-speed, although it does look stock. One of my dad's buddies put a T5 in his car, but he has a tremendously huge and ugly shiftboot on his car, I don't want it to look like that. About T5's, 350lb/ft isn't that much, just with heads, cam, and exhaust you can make just about that from a 289. So I was looking for something to handle more torque than that.

I also met a guy who went through 3 T5's. Maybe he was just an idiot driver, but I just don't want to take the risk.

I was also looking at TR3650's (the transmission in the 99-04 Mustang GT). Let me know.
