transmission

I have a 2000 mustang gt just rebuilt the motor and put about five hundred miles on it.The car has hundred fifty thousand on it.It has a t-45 transmission in it .when i go into fifth gear it will jump out somtimes after the third time putting back in its fine. All of the rest of the gears work fine even reverse.I noticed they had problems with reverse with the t 45 transmission not this one though.Dont know why after five hundred miles this would start to happen. Any help would be appreciated.

(a) Does the car have an aftermarket shifter on it and if so, are the shift stops correctly adjusted?

(b) It's possible after the sort of miles that are on the trans (150K) that the 5th gear synchronizer has degraded. It may be time to think about a rebuild. I'd try a fluid change first...

The shift stops are a good point to check. and you can check this on your own. It is also possible the transmission has a bent shift fork. This could prevent full engagement of a single gear. If this is the case, or the issue is worn bearing or something along those lines, then the trans will need to be disassembled and inspected to find the cause. I am betting on a shift fork/rail type issue.

Well I pulled the transmission out and pulled it apart every thing looks good.No broken forks gears look good. But what i noticed was the gear selector interlock sleeve looks like there is two broken tabs on it.(part #f6aa7k201a)Tried to look up part on line to see what it looks like but no good pictures of it.So i was wondering if that would cause it to jump out of fith gear and how hard to change it.Also where to get the part and if anyone would have a picture of it.I would like to to the job myself seeing i have a bunch of money in the car. Thanks bob..
