I just installed my tremec 3550 in my stang with 3.73 gears. At 65 MPH in 5th gear I am at 2000 RPM?!?!?!? What is going on?? It has made my 3.73's feel like a 3.55 or something like that. Is the tremec supposed to do this or is it supposed to make the 3.73's feel like a 4.10?? Maybe the person I bought it off changed the gears in the tremec.?

The Tremec first gear is not 3:35 like the base model t-5 I believe, however 4th gear is 1:1 so it is the same. The 5th gear may be a little higher ratio to keep the rpms down, which isn't a bad thing.

It is the same gear in 4th which is all the matters....

What the Tremec 3550 is doing is making your 3.73s feel almost like 3.55s. What you might want to do is bump up to a 3.90 gear. Thats what I'm thinking about doing. Its because of the first gear ratio like Rick 91GT said. The base model T5 is a 3.35 and I think our Tremec 3550 is 3.27 or something so first gear isn't gonna pull like it would with a T5. Actually 1st, 4th, and 5th gears are different.

don't know about you but my first gear with the t5 was basically nonexistent, sometimes would drop the hammer into 2nd from the start. for a street car i acutally like having a little longer first gear which my tko500 does from me now, especially with the boost all I used to do was breakem loose all day long with a 3.73 gear

I was just going to start a thread about this. I just installed the 2.95 set of gears in my t-5 and i have 3.90s in the rear. Car feels a little slower, but 5th gear is great, cant wait to get on the highway. I'm not worried since a blower is in the works and i was gonna change rear gears, but now i dont have to :D

First in a 3550 is 3.27 vs 3.35 in a t5, not a huge difference. 5th is .68 in both.

Yes!

I think you would be hard pressed to tell the difference. You can even mathematically figure it out -- ends up making the 3.73's feel like 3.64's or so in first gear.
