Ive had a tremec tr3550 in my 67 mustang for over a year now but i still dont like the angle this thing has got the motor sitting at. Originally I cut the tunnel and lifted the trans to the point that one of the fan blades was about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch away from the lower radiator hose (thought this would be good but didnt like the way my air cleaner sat). Now I relize the car has a 19 inch fan where there should be a 17 inch fan. So I can jack the back of the trans until the fan gets close again. My main mistake :damnit: was not measuring from the centerline of the old c-4 output shaft to the bottom of the tunnel so I could have used this to put the tremecs shaft at the same distance from the tunnel so is there anyone out there who can help me out with some measurments like the trans tunnel to c/l of output shaft and if you have a 17 inch fan how far is it from your lower rad hose to one of the blades at its closest point. Any help is greatly appreciated

Here is what I did. I'm in the process of installing a TKO 600. Mine is a big block and I too did not measure the old tail shaft height. I started to use the supplied cross-member but it had the engine tilted back 6*. It was more than I wanted. I was told that the original setup was at 3* or 4*. I leveled the car using the rocker as a guide. I now have the car level and 0* at the rocker and the engine/trans at 3* back and the rear end at 2* so the rear end is 1* less then the engine/trans.

Did you have to cut anything to get the TKO 600 to fit?

Call me crazy..
Way back in '98 after blowing up my T-5 I just threw a Tremec TKO in my '66 coupe. No mods, no cutting etc and so far everything has been nice since

I had to cut the tunnel and raise it 2" to get the proper angle.

Put the car up on screw type jack stands and level the rocker panels/chassis rails. The carb pad should now be adjusted to be perfectly level. My engine angle (measured at the gearbox extension end) worked out to be 4 degrees with the carb pad level. (I made a simple plumb-bob gauge to measure this but you can buy them). I also believe this should be the angle of the diff pinion if the car's sitting level.

I ended up removing the top of the trans tunnel to make mine fit (engine back 3" from standard) but I also made sure I could fit a C4 and a top-loader as well as the Tremec.

I have heard that it's very important to get the engine/gearbox angle the same as the pinion angle and to minimise pinion angle change as much as possible during driving.

Yes, I raised it 1 1/4" at the shifter hole and 1 3/4" - 2" near the fire wall so that it has a better blend to the unraised portion. John

I agree to using the carb pad as a guide to getting the motor level, but some aftermarket intakes don't have tilted pads. Like the Vic Jr.(Something to remember)

Thanks you figured it out I did not know the intakes were tilted. I checked another intake I had laying around and its got a 3 or 4 degree tilt. So I went to edelbrocks web site sure enough vic jr. is flat wonder why they do this. I think Ill just cut my carb spacer on 3 1/2 degrees redrill and helicoil the theads and that should take care of it.

Only problem with milling the carb spacer on an angle, is it skews the bolt holes and they end up being tilted also.
