I tried to change the yoke on my driveshaft today for the 31 spline FMS (M-4841-A) to suit my TKO600 transmission - but I hit a problem. The unversal joint looks like it needs to be bigger for the new yoke then the stock 85 GT one. Mustangs Unlimited told me I probably need a driveshaft from 87-93 to fit the new yolk.

Anyone else had this issue ?
Will the later driveshaft be the correct size for my larger yolk ?

I thought I had researched this, but it seems not.

I could be wrong but I wasnt aware there was a size difference between old shafts and the new 87-93 units. That is a big difference though and you may need to get the aluminum unit. I happened to already have the aluminum piece when I went with the TKO600 and even though it was bolted to a 460, it still fit and didnt need shortened, though it was close.

I just went with the FRPP aluminum driveshaft for an SN95 car. The spline count is right, and I did not have to cut it to fit the TKO in my 90 coupe.

Thanks to everyone for responding. I managed to break the yoke on my old driveshaft when I was pressing out the universal joint. :bang: So I am going for the aluminum driveshaft - SN95.

It sounds like I dont need the new yoke if the SN95 driveshaft already fits the TKO transmission - is that correct. I am looking at M-4602-J from Summit.

That should be the item. The new driveshaft comes with the correct yoke. On my 90 there was at least 3/4" of travel at the transmission with the driveshaft installed and the suspension fully loaded. If you have similar travel, there will be no need to shorten the driveshaft.

I heard the price on these driveshafts went up - I think I paid $195 Cdn for mine about this time last year.
