After two weeks of a couple hours a day and some long weekends she finally runs.

I still have to track down this massive vacum leak, pull my plugs make sure nothing crazy is going on, re-lash the valves a couple of them wont shut up, and get my timing nailed down. The car amazingly Idles in fact I even drove to my barracks tonight.

OK the Questions???

Is the spout that I have to unplug to set my base timing the spout right off the distributor I thought it was but it when I unplug it the car just craps out (maybe thats the vacum leak though), I just had to time it by ear for now?

How many miles/engine hours before my break in oil change?

Will I be ok with the stock AFPR for now or should I take it easy till I get one
(I know how to read my plugs I'm just worried that the computer could make corrections and I would not catch it in time)?

Is it normal for the car to go to A on the NORMAL on the water temperature gauge before the thermostat really kicks in (I'm in the process of getting rid of the A/C and trying to stuff a massive radiator in there but wont be for a month or so)?

I sure I'll have more question and I will try to do some searches (not good at that). Sorry about the long post but didnt want to make a bunch of them.

Stock fpr is fine.

Sounds like you have to burp your cooling system.

The spout on 94/95's in on the passanger side fenderwell I believe not too far from the MAF. Remove it to set your base timing. Try 14-18*.

I think after a couple warm up cycles you should change the oil. I changed my oil like 4 times before 500 miles...

Other than that I agree with Grn92lx on his suggestions...

Did you install a new thermostat...that is a bit late for it to be opening up.

Burping the system is letting the car idle with the radiator cap off and I squeeze the radiator hose (lower) to get the air pockets out. Some jack the front end of their car up to help the gas escape upwards.

Your stock AFPR would be fine...but I would get one (even with the computer correctingness)...because you can "tune" it for a day at the track.

Good Luck!

no I just cleaned up the old one I was in a hurry and when I get it tuned I want to be able to run a 160deg

Oh by the way I'm also bypassing the heater so I'm thinking the hose might be kincking a little I might have to play with that tommorow.

Thanks for the tip on the burping I will do that tommorow.

No problem...:nice:

I wouldn't run a 160 degree thermostat...you will run in open loop (your coolant will constantly be flowing thru the engine)...A 180* degree thermostat from Motorcraft or Mr. Gasket would be a nice choice:nice:

A 180* stat is perfect. A 160* won't keep you in open loop though. Its more time based. But anyway, definatly burp the system and i'd also highly suggest a manual fan switch. The 94/95 fan's are programed by the eec to come on around 212* or something like that if I remember. Wire up a switch to manually turn the high side on when needed.

Yeah, I'm definatley going to burp the system tonight and I'm planning on running a manual fan switch as soon as I get a chance. Hopefully burping it will make it safe enough to to be driveable.

I'll let you know how it goes.
