Ok the T5 in my '88 GT is pretty notchy. It has 125k on it and the engine/tranny in my '65 has 160k on it. The one in my '65 is a dream compared to the one in the '88. It's so smooth compared to the other. The '88 is very notchy and sometimes grinds going into 3rd, grinds when downshifting to 1st after going about 45mph or faster, and grinds trying to go into reverse. The gears (mostly 1st) are very hard to go into and it's very notchy as well. Do I have bad syncros or do I just need a new clutch?

If the syncros are bad, how hard is it to replace them? I've never worked on a tranny before, so if I can't tackle the job, how much could I expect to pay to have them fixed? Thanks.

Sounds like the synchros are bad, but you can get a rebuild kit for the t-5 pretty cheap like around a hundred bucks. The hardest part about it is pulling it out of the car. Once its on your work bench it aint that bad. Or you can get a rebuilt one for about 700 bucks.

I have a car hoist, so pulling it out of the car shouldn't be a problem. Only problem is, it's going to be my only daily driver very soon.

Sounds like you need to get it done really soon then. Where did you get a car hoist from? Seems like a lot of people have them in their garages now.
