I usually use a small diameter pipe on the end when I'm ready to finish the installation. Don't overadjust them so the trunk lid goes through the back window
A pirate walks into a bar, the bartender looks at him and says "do you know know that you have a steering wheel tucked in your pants?" The pirate answers "Aye! and it's drivin me nuts"
Can anyone post pictures of the rods installed correctly on a 65 coupe? I want to make sure that I get them right so that I don't have to take them on and off a bunch.
I fought with these bigtime on my 72. After a friend poked a 4 stitch hole in his hand, I made a tool for this. Email me and I'll send you back a picture if you want at [email protected]. Basically, I put a 4 inch slot into a 3 foot piece of bar stock. I put the rod into the slot and put a half dozen tie wraps over the slot to make sure the rod didn't let loose. It made this job really quick and much safer. You can't believe how much force is on the rods when trying to mount them.
