I'm having problems mounting my slicks on the 99 V6 rims I got. I was going to use tubes from SummitRacing but they have a metal valve stem that doesnt fit through the hole in the rim. Anybody ever seen this? Also, I tried doing just the tires with no tubes and the tire just wont seat all the way even with simple green or grease all over the rim. Anybody ever mount slicks and had these problems? Do you gents use tubes with your slicks? I dont plan to go below 12 psi. Let me know all your stories so I have an idea. If I need to use tubes I guess I need to find a brand that doesnt have a steel valve stem with threads. Thanks Scot Rod

I figured that, but the ring that screws onto the metal stem is too wide for the lip on the rim. I guess I have to grind that away that. Its one of those things that everybody does but you never hear about it until you have to do it. Plus I still cant get the tire to seat.

Yeah, I'm over 500 at the wheels so I'd feel safer with the tubes especially since I already paid for them. Well now everybody will know. If you are going to install slicks on your rims and use tubes, you need to drill out the hole and grind away the material surrounding the hole so you can screw down the valve stem. Of all the forums, trips to the strip, and mag articles, I've never seen anyone mention this, but now everybody should know.
